This is a detective story which investigates the use of Australian flora in French design at the turn of the 20th century. It is about explorers, gardeners, artisans, artists, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. About plants and people and cultural cannibalism.

French Pacific
As I am about to set out on another journey to France to uncover more information about the introduction of Australian flora into France at the turn of the 19th century and the subsequent use of this flora in French design I thought that I should provide some background information. In 2007 I presented a paper entitled "Baudin and the Bees" at a conference at the University of Tasmania called, Revelation: Instalation art and its capacity to interpret and elaborate places of historical significance. This paper was based on my research to that time and, while it did not deal with installation art, it did provide a background to the French explorations and the French proposal which resulted in the English establishing prisoner based colonies in Australia. I will publish this paper over the next few weeks under its original title.
